With a move months away, and so much unprecedented change, many of us have not had time to say goodbye to our friends who are moving on, or to reconnect after the summer.
Within our relatively small industry, we know the value of staying connected, so please join us for a small get-together, Thursday, Sept. 29, 2016, to reminisce, share hopes for the future, and review our plans to stay connected in our new workplace.
As the merger progresses, CMG remains proud of the energy and commitment you continue to invest in your work, and your union. Over the past 11 years, you have worked with us to increase the pay, benefits, salary scales, severance pay, and even departure packages available to all CMG members. Other notable gains are fair hours of work, better overtime pay, and a steady progression through a recognized salary grid. All of these gains are detailed and protected under the CMG collective agreement, and cannot be changed arbitrarily, or waived by the company for the term of your Corus/Shaw employment.
Those of you moving to Corus and staying in the union will continue to be covered by the rights and standards in your collective agreement.
*For many members who are departing, the union helped negotiate an enhanced package of 3.5 weeks per year of pay for every year served, along with a 6-week increase (up from 52 to 58 weeks) for workers approaching 20 years of service at Shaw. To help you re-establish, CMG has also ensured that you get $5,000 from the company in training funds available for further education.
*For members moving into non-union roles at Corus, CMG has ensured you will be covered by our lay-off provisions for the length of your employment with Shaw/Corus. As you take on additional hours – moving from a 35-hour to a 40-hour work week at Corus – CMG has negotiated a one-time $4,800 additional payment.
Whether you are departing or joining us at Corus, CMG remains committed to improving the work lives of all its members.
As Canada’s exclusively-media union, improving media workers’ health, safety and working conditions remains a priority. We are proud to have worked with you at Shaw, and look forward to serving you and our new members at Corus.
Look for an invite to a ”CMG Welcomes New Corus Members” in the coming months. United, and collectively we can make a difference.
