The CMG’s Freelance branch is made up of journalists and commentators who create content on a freelance basis for the CBC/SRC and its various services. There is no application fee; freelancers are automatically covered by all the terms and conditions of the existing CMG-CBC collective agreement.

There are few labour unions that have been able to negotiate terms and conditions of work for workers who are often viewed as self-employed. During the last round of bargaining the CMG clarified issues such as ownership of intellectual property and compensation for re-use.

When dealing with the Corporation, or any other engager for that matter, it’s important to know exactly what your rights and entitlements are, as well as your responsibilities.
