Guild and CBC settle 20 grievances filed under previous contracts
The Canadian Media Guild and the CBC have reached an agreement to settle 20 outstanding grievances filed under the previous collective agreements. The settlement provides compensation to 51 Guild members, negotiated according to the details of each individual case.
The grievances dealt with issues such as salary progression for 36 associate producers, training and cross-skilling premiums, pay equity, overtime and retirement. The settlement also means that a group of employees in Toronto will receive new winter clothing within a few months. As well, the Guild and CBC management will meet within 30 days to discuss co-productions and the payment of union dues.
Most of the remaining grievances filed under the previous agreements have been referred to arbitration, although settlements discussions are continuing for a number of those. A number of grievances are being held pending the outcome of either the Job Evaluation process, or union jurisdiction challenges before the Canada Industrial Relations Board.
In addition, two individual grievances filed under the new collective agreement were recently settled. Several others are headed to arbitration, including complaints related to retroactive pay and payment to temporary employees for October 7 and 10, 2005, filed under the Return-to-work protocol.
The 20 grievances filed under the previous contracts were settled to the mutual satisfaction of the parties. The agreement is without admission of liability or fault, is without prejudice and does not constitute a precedent in any other matter of proceeding.
