Guild calls for strict conditions for approval of AAC sale to CanWest
By  CMG  •  Posted on  August 2, 2007

The Canadian Media Guild is urging the CRTC to set strict conditions on approving the sale of Alliance Atlantis Communications to CanWest Global. The CMG filed a submission with the regulator today. A hearing will be held on the matter in September.

The CMG is calling for the CRTC to require that CanWest’s existing broadcasting operations be kept separate from the operations acquired from AAC. As well, the CMG is seeking strict limits on the amount of programming that can be duplicated across the company’s various platforms, and a guarantee of editorial independence in CanWest newsrooms.
