As you may have heard from Aptn, the company is anticipating some financial issues following the recent CRTC licence renewal decision. Aptn’s CEO has requested a meeting with the union to discuss ways to deal with this.
During our last session of collective bargaining in 2010, the union agreed that if APTN was unsuccessful in its request for additional funding from the CRTC, the company may ask to re-open the collective agreement for a review of some financial issues.
So now, Aptn is requesting a change to the pay scales for all job classifications due on the next anniversary date of the collective agreement. he suggested change WOULD NOT affect the 2% increase for anyone at the top of the pay scale or the 3.5% increase for everyone still moving up the salary scale.
What it would affect is the 3.5% “Double Step Increase” that is scheduled to occur in Year 3 of the agreement on April 25, 2014. That increase eliminates the starting scale salary and adds a new Step 9 to all the salaries. The Double Step Increase was to occur twice over the life of this collective agreement: in Year 1 (2011) and again in Year 3 (2014).
According to Aptn, dropping this increase would save $525,000; Aptn also says this cut would be shared by all union and non-union employees.
