CMG representatives available to help employees who receive redundancy notices today
By  CMG  •  Posted on  April 30, 2014

Today is a sad and depressing day for all of us who love public broadcasting and the CBC, but especially so for our colleagues who will begin to receive redundancy notices.

We know that 318 CMG members across the country will be affected, with the cuts particularly painful in sports and the newsroom in Toronto.

If you are one of the CBC staff who unfortunately receive a notice from your manager, you will be able to meet with union reps.

We know this is a stressful time, and we want to remind you, a redundancy notice is *not* a layoff notice, but the beginning of another process of trying to find alternate work you can do at the corporation.

The union is already working with CBC to try to find existing vacancies or suitable work in other units based on qualifications and seniority.

You will be given time and advice on updating your resume (helpful documents here) and details on the process (please click here for more information).

You can confirm your “CMG seniority date” at HR @ myfingertips. Please make sure this date matches your records, or get in touch with CBC HR to correct it.

If you have questions, Guild representatives and volunteers in your workplace are available to work through this difficult process with you. You are not alone.

You can also write to info@cmg.ca or call 416-591-5333 or 1-800-465-4149.
