It is time to get ready for the most important thing we do together – negotiate our collective agreement. We are looking for up to five Guild members to form our bargaining committee. Is one of them you?
Here’s what you need to know:
– negotiations with management are expected to start sometime after the federal election; our agreement is up for renewal at the end of 2019.
– expenses and time off from work to attend negotiations are paid for all members of the committee.
– training will be provided and no experience is needed; the most important thing is to have a commitment to your co-workers and the ability to think strategically.
– participating on the committee requires full days in Toronto, typically two or more at a time, over several weeks to negotiate an agreement.
We are looking for a committee that is representative of the membership. Concretely, that means age and gender balance, representatives from both English and French services, as well as at least one member from our largest location in Toronto.
You can speak to a co-worker who has participated before on a Guild bargaining committee at CP to find out more about what to expect. Your local Guild president can connect you with a previous bargaining committee member.
If you are interested in joining the committee, please write to us care of email@example.com no later than Friday, June 28. We will finalize the selection in July.
